The Ästhetiker Shreddown is known for two things. A very high level of freestyle snowboarding, and ridiculous parties in the wee hours of the night. This year is set to be no different, and why should it be any different, when you’ve got one of Austria’s best Shredparks and a highly dedicated crowd of kids, who are all shredcrazy. And, who doesn’t like to go out and have a beer or two at events as such? The park, lovingly called the ‘Boarders Playground’, is maintained by none other than Mr. Gogo Gossner. One can argue about it, but for many he is the true original Ästhetiker. At least, he was the first of many to come. With his expertise and skill, you can be assured that the booters will be massive, but totally safe and chill to jump. Well, maybe not chill is the wrong word for it!
This year the contest format is a little different, giving youngbloods a chance to show what they’ve got. The Rookie contest will be held on Saturday the 22nd, where some of the riders will be able to qualify themselves for the Pro contest the next day. On Sunday the 23rd, things will get serious, when it’s time for the pro’s to give the ‘Big Mamma’ a go. Most of the Ästhetiker’s will be there representing amongst other namely Pro’s, who have also confirmed their attendance. Not to forget the one or other rookie who triumphed on Saturday.
The obligatory aftershow party will be held at the Alpenrosensaal, where cult-radio station FM4′s Dj Beware will attempt to blow its roof off! Definitely worth checking it out. You won’t be sorry.
Furthermore, there will be a side event further down in the valley at the bottom lift station entailing a huge airbag type thing called the ‘Bagjump’. As the name implies, it is a huge airbag, which will catch your fall as you try out new tricks without having to fear dire consequences! This will be going on Sat. the 22nd aswell from 1 till 5 pm. All you have to do is sign up on site, and the best thing is, is that it’s for free! Warning; It is advised that only experienced freestylers sign up, as the whole thing does entail a little bit of risk for the unexperienced. The Pros’s will then step up at around 6 pm to show the crowd what actually is possible on a snowboard. There will also be an aftershow party in the Bar Karat for this side event. The only bummer news, is that if bad weather creeps in the event could get postponed to Sunday or may even have to be cancelled, as the altitude is quite low at the bottom lift station.
