Why Alaska? Take it from the pros.
“I keep coming back to Alaska ’cause it is the craziest, steepest, deepest powder that you can find. Its the best place in the world to snowboard. All these guys know that already. It’s pretty scary and fast and big. Everything is 20 times bigger than it is anywhere else in the world.”
Introducing TAILGATE ALASKA
“As host of TAILGATE ALASKA ’09 brought to you by Alaskan Brewing, Redbull, the city of Valdez and MTNOPS, I would like to welcome you to some of the best snowboarding on the planet. Come ride with me and the top pros of today in a place where legends are made. You will ride every kind of terrain there is – chutes, bowls, tight couloirs, natural halfpipes and open pow fields. But on such a grand scale that with each run comes an even greater feeling of accomplishment, awe, and achievement. The unknown truth about Alaska is that 60% of the terrain is intermediate and you don’t have to be a backcountry expert to enjoy these mountains. Even the beginner will have the time of their life. This is the place to come to improve your big mountain skills and experience the best riding of your life with your best bros, snowboard heroes, and all the local legends.”
– Nick Perata
TAILGATE ALASKA is an event that puts riding the best terrain and snow conditions within reach of more riders than ever before. Our goal is to share the mountains and our experiences in Alaska with more people. If you are dedicated to snowboarding then put Alaska on the list – it is sure to change the way you look at everything else in snowboarding.
We set up a heated, wified basecamp at the ABA helipad for people to weather the storms, eat, have a cold Alaskan IPA with new friends and check their email, as well as a gathering place for everyone at the event. Every afternoon we have a BBQ, while each day is spent in the mountains around Thompson pass. Helicopter riding, sled and skin access are literally steps away from our basecamp. We have access to catboarding at CMRC a short drive down the road. We also provide activities for down days to make the most of your Alaskan experience.
Anybody is welcome to attend Tailgate Alaska. Our goal is to get as many passionate snowboarders to ride together in Alaska. Thompson Pass has the best snow conditions and terrain in the world and our goal is to share the experience with YOU!
You are more than welcome to make your own arrangements to get yourself up to Valdez and ride with the TAILGATE ALASKA crew, or check out our packages, designed to make the experience as affordable as possible. Feel free to come as long or as briefly as you like.
