Aloha Flumserberg – Snowboard and Freeski Talents fly high above Lake Walen!

If it looks like Hawaii high above Lake Walen, Switzerland, then it must be the seventh edition of the Snowpark Tour. At the weekend of February 9-10, 50 Freestyle-rookies showed their best in The Real Park, Flumserberg. Over 250 spectators witnessed fat airs and sick slides accompanied by fantastic weather. Thomas Kobel from Klosters won the Freeski Contest. A 17-year old, Markus Mathis, from Belp rocked the Snowboard competition and Anna Carl from Chur won the girls boarding.

Beautiful weather and a big crowd
After terrible weather for the Tour Stop in Garmisch, the weather went Hawaiian for the Tour Stop in Flumserberg. Two days of beautiful sunshine, perfectly shaped park and over 250 spectators. As ever, the Saturday of each SPT event provides the competitors time to get used to the park. Check out all kickers and rails, try different lines and adjust the speed to clear all tables. The Real Park offers several smooth kicker lines and also an interesting rail, box, wallride and jib-barrel playground.

Youngest Competitor wins snowboard contest
As SPT-usual the competition format was a jam session. This way of competing lowers the pressure to risk all you have in just one run, and also gives the competitors the chance to choose different individual runs. 30 Snowboarders and 20 Freeskiers showed in a mixed session what they are up for. Youngster Markus Mathis (17 years) convinced the judges in the men’s snowboarding competition that he was simply the best. He impressed with a lot of style and secure runs. His Cab 900°, Back- und Frontside 720° Spins und Rodeoflips secured a well-deserved victory. Despite his youth and inexperience he delivered a surprisingly wide diversity of tricks with an individual style and stomping almost all of them pretty easily. Markus Mathis is a rookie to look out for. Second came Mathias Vogt from Waldshut and third place went to Dominic Eggerberger.

Anna Carl from Chur won the women’s snowboard competition. She qualified as well for the Final in Kaprun. Jeannette Badoer from Uitikon came second und Anita Weibel from Horgen finished third.
