ʻHEROES BY NATUREʼ CELEBRATES THE EVOLUTION OF SNOWBOARDING
Athletes and fans pay tribute to the sport with the first ever European theatrical screening of LET IT RIDE and World Premiere of BURTON PRESENTS: SNOWBOARDING
Yesterday, riders and fans alike united across 45+ cinemas in 6 countries at the theatrical screening of “LET IT RIDE – THE CRAIG KELLY STORY“ and the World Premiere of “BURTON PRESENTS: PEACE PARK“.
Burton riders Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, Alek Oestreng, Marko Grilc and Christian Haller walked the red carpet at Pathé cinema in Zurich, celebrating the people, places and philosophies that made the sport what it is today. As these different generations represented the history of their sport, the greatest legend of them all was only visible on screen: Craig Kelly was the first global superstar of snowboarding and is said to be the inventor of freeriding. “Craig was a role model. Especially for young riders” says Terje Haakonsen, “his style, but also his devotion and professionalism were a game-changer for us.”
“The evening was fun” adds Nicolas Mueller, “it was the first time I saw ‘Let it Ride’ and I think everyone who snowboards should watch this. It’s important to know where we all come from in order to know where we are going next.”
A glimpse of this future was then showcased through BURTON PRESENTS: PEACE PARK, the evolution of the low-pressure, progressive park environment that began with Peace Pipe in 2012 and revived the camaraderie, friendship, good times, and snowboarding progression that typical contests and filming sessions rarely do.
The athletes were joined by thousands of devoted snowboard fans in 45 cinemas in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Spain and Romania, who not only experienced the films via live broadcast, but were also able to post questions to their heroes via social media.
