We heard rumours of RDM getting on board with a new Rusty Outerwear programme, which was confirmed the other day, so we reckoned it was a good time to call him up and see his take on the deal, see what  he’s up to and his plans for the winter. Make sure you check out his full interview in Onboard 111 – in stores now.

You just signed a contract with Rusty, which is a surprise because Rusty has been out of the snowboarding affairs for a long time, tell us how this happened?
Well, after I quit Burton I was looking for clothing sponsor but there was nobody that wanted to partener with me at the time because of the economic factor. So I rode for some small companies for free for the last two years until I this winter when I got introduced by Anne-Flore [Marxer] to Rusty director Dane Ward . The first meeting was really possitive and then we exchanged our idea and philosophy about how we could bring Rusty into the sport, and we were on the same page so I said ‘Ok let’s do this.’

Are you going to be just a rider or more like an ambassador for the brand?
For now I’m a rider but help them building their snow program. So, yes, little bit of both I guess.

You’re spending most of your winter in BC this season, how is it going so far for you?
So far I’ve had an epic begining of season. We started shooting really early with Absinthe, now it is a little down as we are waitting for some new snow.

What’s the vibe over there? Is everybody already getting the ‘Olympic fever’?
No, not really. It seems like nobody wants to be here so it’s pretty quiet…. but I’m sure when the Olympics start it’s going to be crazy.

Are you going to come to Europe at all this winter?
Yes, I’m coming to ISPO and plan on riding abit in Europe, in Switzerland.

What YES board are you riding most of the time? Rocker or camber?
Well, both. I mean we made a board with Nidecker that has camber and rocker in the same board so I ride the asymetrical board line.

Finally, isn’t kind of weird to read your own interview in a magazine? (RDM got a full interview in issue 111 – out now.)
Not at all, it’s not. I was really happy to have the chance to be able to share my new experiences  and maybe inspire people to go out there and live to the fullest.
