Looks like Shaun White has been keeping busy down under…
Remember when Shaun White had Red Bull build him a private halfpipe in the Colorado backcountry so he could dial in his Tomahawk before Vancouver 2010? Well by the looks of things, he’s only gone and got GoPro to build him a similar super-top-secret-and-obviously-private training ground in Perisher, Australia.
After crashing out of the first contest of the season, Shaun is clearly looking to up his game so that he can get his hands on both the halfpipe and slopestyle gold medals next year in Sochi. Of course, he’s already stomped triples on kickers (on a private jump in Breckenridge no less) and rumour has it that the ginger ninja has also been working on them in the pipe (why else would he need an airbag?!).
Judging on his recent performance in slopestyle at the X Games in Aspen, where Mark McMorris easily outperformed Mr. White, what clearly needs the most work is Shaun’s rail game. Zeaches, sketchy 254s on and the like just aren’t gonna cut it against dudes who have devoted their entire snowboard careers to hitting kickers and rails. And are really bloody good at it.
By the looks of things, there were a bunch of rails in his private training ground so he’s no doubt been sessioning them with all of his buddies. Oh yeah, hang on…
Will Shaun have pulled it all together by the time February rolls around to rock up and take double gold? Get your bets in now because if we’ve learnt one thing watching Shaun compete over the years, it’s that he knows a thing or two about winning when he really wants to.
