The Nanshan Open, the first snowboard contest in China, has added Red Bull as the Open’s official sponsor. Red Bull joins an impressive roster of returning and founding sponsors from previous years.
As the title sponsor of the Nanshan Open, Red Bull receives title ownership as well as will be fully integrated with marketing benefits of one of the most media generating sports events in the country.
Snowboarding is a relatively new sport in China, and it fits perfectly into the “break through the extreme, express the potential” company motto, which has lead Red Bull to support many extraordinary sports internationally. With Formula 1, The Red Bull Air Race Series and Skateboard Contests among them, the addition of The Nanshan Open gives Red Bull a place to show case their passion for pushing individual limits and their sports to the Chinese public.
“With the addition of Red Bull to the Mellow family, we will be able to do the type of event no one has ever seen here in China.” said Steve Zdarsky, Mellow China CEO. “The Nanshan Open is on its 5th season and it will be bigger than ever. Red Bull is the perfect partner to support our initiatives in continuing to be the top event in China as they will use the event as marketing material internally which will push snowboarding in China even further”.
The 5th Red Bull Nanshan Open will take place in the finest snow park in China, The Nokia Nanshan Mellow Park. It was the first snowboard specific area in the country and with the major expansions this year, it has grown by over quadruple its original size. Now, the park boasts a kicker line, over 12 rails and boxes and a hand shaped half-pipe. Nanshan is the best and most visited resort in the country and is one of the only places with the infrastructure to support such an event.
“One great thing about this event, is we integrate Chinese riders into the program” said Marco Huang, Event Coordinator. “It gives them a chance to show their country and the world that the Chinese riders are catching onto snowboarding at a rapid pace. Not to mention, gives them a chance to ride with some of the worlds top riders”.
Owned by Mellow Constructions, The Nanshan Open was not only the first snowboard event in China, but also the first event to host international pro riders. In 2003, the first crop of pros came over and since then the Open has experienced major expansion. Also this season, TTR welcomes the Nanshan Open into their impressive list of world-class events, giving Mellow and Nanshan a platform for the entire world to see.
The Nanshan Open is brought to you in part by Nokia, Quiksilver, Deeluxe, Dakine and Gibson Guitars and Red Bull!
