(Oslo, February 20, 2007).European snowboard clothing brand Protest becomes co-sponsor and host the rookie sessions at The Oakley Arctic Challenge (TAC).
One of the most prestigious snowboarding events in the world is going down in Oslo next week. Together with snowboarder and TAC owner Terje Haakonsen, the European snowboard clothing brand Protest has developed a concept for young and upcoming snowboarders (rookies). TAC and Protest have set aside €5000 to travel and photo support for the best rookie at the Protest Rookie Sessions – as well as a potential sponsorship for the next season from Protest.
Few people have done more for snowboarding than Terje Haakonsen, and bringing up new talents has always been a pivotal part of the event. Shaun White participated as rookie in 2000 and later won his first International victory at TAC in 2001. Established names as Eero Ettala, Mathieu Crepel and Fredrik Austboe have all kickstarted their career as rookies at TAC.
- By setting aside €5000 of the sponsorship to a rookie prize, we offer a natural extension from the massive exposure the rookies get at the event. Working together with TAC we give the rookies a chance to make the first step in a potential professional path. As a rider, I know this is a unique opportunity for a young snowboarder, says Jody Koenders, TAC rider and Protest team manager.
- It’s the first time we give a prize to the rookies. We don’t want to hand over a cash purse to a 12-year old, so the travel and photo package is great. That’s what I wanted when I started snowboarding, says Terje Haakonsen.
There are 5 spots for the Protest Rookie Sessions. Four are already taken, so one spot is still available. Potential candidates for the last spot can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or Jody Koenders (email@example.com). Please attach a bio for the potential rookie rider.
Protest was created in 1993 by snowboarders in search of functional, good-looking snowboard wear for a reasonable price . As a team Protest put their heads together and from that magical moment, Protest succeeded in producing an authentic range. As year-round boarders Protest provides a complete winter and summer collection. Protest boardwear is now sold in 40 countries and is still growing. The reason why Protest is sponsoring TAC; because safety is an important aspect ‘The rocket science project’ (a construction and measurement project at The Arctic Challenge) and because Protest is seeking for new talent to complete the Protest snowboard team. The Rookies are the future!
