FTWO is proud to welcome Miikka Hast to its international team. For a few years now Miikka has kept a very high profile not only in the international freestyle contest scene, but also filming with big name crews in the US and Europe. He’s a regular at events such as ‘The Battle’, various TTR events and the US Open and will definitely add a new dimension to the FTWO team.
Name: Miikka Hast
Hometown: Rovaniemi, Finland
Date of birth: 18th May 1981
Why the change to FTWO? Well, since FTWO is off to a fresh start they involve me into many different areas and it’s really nice to have this input. Also, I really like their new boards and am hoping to work very close with them in the future to make them even better.
If you were not snowboarding, what would you be doing? I would study in a university probably.
The first contest you entered? If I remember right I was four or five. It was Hippo Hiihto cross-country skiing contest. My dad was running with me the whole way. I won a silver medal but still decided that skiing wasn’t my thing.
Favourite contest? The Battle. It is different from all the others in many ways and the park is amazing.
Your biggest influence in snowboarding? Friends like Antti and Risto and Dan Watts.
How does frequent travelling affect your life/career? Well the mail piles up behind my door, I don’t see my girl enough and it is hard to do anything else during the winter. But it is still the best thing to do.
What do you do in your free time? In the winter I don’t have much free time but in the summer I skate, play tennis and golf. Listen to a lot of music and try to go to concerts and festivals and watch movies.
What are your friends like? Most of them are snowboarders. All of them do some sports and have goals in life. All of them know how to have good time and party.
What do you want to become good at that you haven‘t tried yet? Surfing, I tried it three times but that doesn’t count yet. And I would like to learn to play an instrument maybe guitar. I always loved music but never played anything so that would be interesting.
How has your life changed since you became a pro snowboarder? I have seen many places and travelled a lot. I have less time off snow and I am busy most of the year. I have better income and met lot of people. Life has changed a lot (to better).
What does it take to succeed as a pro? Determination, motivation, hard work, compromises and little bit of luck.
The best moment of your career? No single moment but the feeling after a succesful day is the best thing.
