Spela Rihar’s winning notebook.
Elan Snowboards is very happy to announce the winner of the exclusive Chicas Notebook competition: step forward Spela Rihar, from Slovenia! Honorable mentions, meanwhile, go to our second and third place finishers Alexandra Schleich from Austria and Jussi Lehmuskallio from Finland.
Launched at the end of last year on elanchicas.com – a dedicated website for girls that love snowboarding – the competition invited online visitors to upload scanned images of their favorite diary pages and potentially play a part in the creation of the first ever Chicas Notebook. The added incentive of a free Chicas Notebook for every entrant provided the participants with that extra bit of motivation to get creative.
Alexandra Schleich’s effort
With next to no limitations in place, every entrant’s creative masterpiece was displayed in an online gallery for the duration of the competition.
Three months later and with more than 140 submissions to review, the Elan Chicas team riders broke away from their busy winter schedules to judge the best 20 entries and eventual winner. Austrian freestyler and Chicas judge Lisa Filzmoser was blown away by the depth and quality of submissions, and said: “Wow! This contest was a great way for girls to showcase one of the many ways they choose to express themselves.”
3rd place for Jussi Lehmuskallio
As our main competition winner, Špela picks up a money-can’t-buy prize for her efforts: a two-day trip to Elan’s headquarters including a guided tour of the factory. She’ll also meet and share
creative ideas with designers from the Chicas program before collaborating with them on the design of new graphics that could end up on anything from boards to t-shirts in 2009/2010. And let’s not forget her winning page, of course. Look out for it as a double page spread on the inside front cover of the printed Notebook!
Germany’s Conny Bleicher was also super-impressed by the remaining entrants, saying: “The overall quality of submissions confirmed what we already knew: there’s a ton of super-creative and talented girls out there that fit in perfectly with the Chicas philosophy and way of life. Rock on girls!” And last but not least, Canadian team rider Dominique Vallée summed up the usual dilemna of a judge’s role, stating: “It was super tough to pick just one winner, so it’s cool to know everyone walks away with the printed Notebook – pretty sick!”
