The Burton NZ Open kicks off from August 3-5th. Olympic snowboarding gold medallists and world champions will be hot-footing it down to the Snow Park in Wanaka to compete in halfpipe, quarterpipe and slopestyle events.
Keep eyes peeled for last year’s winner, Mason Aguirre (USA), in the quarterpipe competition, US Open Rookie of the year, Danny Davis, in the halfpipe and burgeoning Japanese talent Takaharu Nakai, Kazuhiro Kokubo and Fumiyuki Murakami.
Hotly tipped in the ladies events are top Australian rider Torah Bright in the women’s halfpipe, 2006 US Open slopestyle champion Hana Beaman (USA) and X Games 2006 Gold Medalist, Kelly Clark (USA).
The New Zealand Open is the first stop of Burton’s Open series before it moves on to Australia, Japan, Europe and the USA. To complement the riding, this year there will be musical accompaniments from some of NZ’s finest rock, hip hop and drum ‘n’ bass talent.
