The 2006 Burton Australian Snowboarding Championships has been cancelled due to insufficient snowfall. Event organizers met this weekend to discuss their options and, after careful consideration, decided that they could not provide riders with a quality event in the current snow conditions.
The Australian Open, going into its third year, was scheduled for August 25-27, 2006 at Falls Creek, Victoria and was to be the second event in the 2006-2007 Burton Global Open Series, which spans five countries over the course of the year. However, organizers felt that the usual high quality of the Open would have been compromised if they had allowed it to continue in Australia without sufficient snow for a good show.
Liam Griffin, Burton Snowboards Events and Entertainment Manager, stated: “We are very excited about the growth of the Australian Open over the past few years and want to make sure we can see the event continue to progress rather than take a step backwards in a challenging snow year.”
Riders who are currently registered for the Australian Open can request refunds by contacting email@example.com. Please allow four weeks for processing.
