On November 2, 2007, Burton Snowboards and Channel Islands Surfboards celebrated the grand opening of their flagship store in Osaka and are now officially part of the bustling Shinsaibashi shopping district. The two-story store is Japan’s first store to carry Burton’s latest snowboard gear and apparel and will also be the company’s first store in Japan to feature a premium selection of Channel Islands surfboards and surf gear.  The store also features Analog clothing, Gravis shoes, ANON sunglasses and goggles, and R.E.D. protective gear.

Located at 1-4-29 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, the new store welcomes Osaka to the growing number of flagship stores already in NYC, Burlington, Innsbruck, Tokyo and Chicago. Arriving in a decked-out black Hummer limo laced with gold Burton logos, Burton global pro riders Shaun White, Tadashi Fuse, Jeremy Jones, Trevor “Trouble” Andrew, Nicolas Müller, Mads Jonsson and Anne-Flore Marxer were joined by Burton Japan riders Kazuhiro “Kazu” Kokubo, Takaharu Nakai, Yoshinari Uemura, Yuki Furihata, Junko Asazuma and Shota Suzuki to celebrate the new Burton Osaka store with an official Japanese opening ceremony that included breaking the sake barrel and serving sake and “mochi” rice cakes to the first 300 customers.  Channel Islands’ Kalani Robb, Analog’s Arto Saari and Gravis’ Kassia Meador, Rizal Tanjung and Shuji Kasuya also were in town to celebrate and join in on the sake shots as well as mark the first time our team riders from snow, surf and skate have all been represented at one event.

The VIP in-store reception hosted more than 650 Osaka media, key dealers, friends of Burton and Channel Islands as well as local Osaka business personalities and athletes.  Featured entertainment included Osaka’s DJ Them-Jeans, from the Dim-Mak Label, on the main floor and live music by Gravis Japan rider and musician Keison in the rider lounge.

Burton followed up the reception with an after-party that took place at the Live and Bar 11 with live entertainment by Tucker, who was also involved with Burton’s AK Project, and DJ Shinko, a member of Japanese’s famous hip hop group Schadaraparr, for more than 700 people. Guests were also surprised with a special performance by Trevor “Trouble” Andrew who sang a few tunes for the hyped Osaka crowd and Burton crew. The riders kept things going until late in the night and are looking forward to heading to Tokyo for the Burton World Tour stop on November 5, where they will premiere the new Burton movie, “Thanks In Advance”, and celebrate the Tokyo Burton store’s one year anniversary.
