For snowboarders and twin-tip freeskiers alike – there’s great news – Big White Ski Resort will open TELUS Park this weekend! Flynn Seddon, TELUS Park manager, says “we’ll have an array of boxes and rails set up in all four lanes – small to XL – and as the snow falls we’ll be improving the features.” Seddon is also excited about Steve Petrie’s arrival at Big White. Petrie is one of the top pipe builders in the world and he will be at work cutting the Super Pipe for the 2007 season, as well as educating Big White’s pipe grooming staff on the finer points of pipe maintenance.
Seddon is known throughout snowboard and New School circles as one of the top park designers in North America. The December, 2006 issue of Transworld Snowboarding – the world’s largest and most influential snowboarding magazine – ranked TELUS Park as one of the top fifteen terrain parks in North America. The only other Canadian park rated in the survey was at Whistler-Blackcomb.
Since snowboarders first started appearing on the slopes of this renowned Okanagan resort in the early 80s, Big White has been a big favourite with both local and international riders who have shredded the awesome tree lines, alpine bowls, and many natural hits and features. They also come for the awesome powder – over 23 feet (700 cm) annually.
