The Bergisel stadium in Innsbruck will once again be hosting the Air&Style Quarter Pipe contest going down on the 2nd of February 2008. In some ways the Air&Style is coming home to it’s birthplace, which I’m sure has gotten a lot of Innsbruckers stoked.
24 of the best Snowboarders in the world will destroy the 12 meter high QP, and will be followed up by non other than the Queens of the Stone Age and Dynamite Deluxe, who will rock the shit out of the good ol’ stadium.
The Queens of the Stone Age were founded in 1997 by Singer/Guitarist and Frontman Josh Homme in sunny California. Since then the band has released five full length albums that can be found somewhere between alternative and stoner rock. They just recently had a special surprise concert inside of a mountain saltmine in Thüringen, Germany. The only constant member of the band is Josh Homme as the ensemble keeps on changing under his reign. Nonethenless the band has dabbled with some prominent musicians such as Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails, Julian Casblancas of the Strokes and Dave Grohl, who needs no introduction. In other words, they’ll have something up their sleeve for sure.
The second music act of the evening will be Hamburgs Hip Hop veterans Dynamite Deluxe. Frontman and rapper Samy Deluxe, who was involved in some soloprojects, has returned to his roots and fellow dynamite members Topf and Dynamite. They are back with a vengeance and want to raise the roof as they did in previous years with their gold certified album ‘Deluxe Soundsystem’. After having a listen to the new single ‘Dynamite!’ from the upcoming album ‘TNT’, you realize that the boys have lost non of their steez over the years. The Bergisel should get ready to get doooown!
The Billabong Air&Style QP contest will begin at 5 pm with a qualification round, where 24 shreds will be divided into two groups. After that, Dynamite Deluxe will do their thing, before the finals get underway. The crowning finish of the evening will belong to some rocking Queens.
As of now; there is an official Air&Style Billabong collection, consisting of T-shirts, beanies, hoodies, thermal cups and caps to be found in well equipped shops all around Europe.
If you don’t make it to the Bergisel on the 2nd don’t panic, as the whole contest will be covered live via webcasts. Just go to the Billabongpro page and you’re set.
