The full line-up of Lib Tech's Travis Rice HP sick sticks.

We set off our first Product of the Week with a full-on firecracker of a snowboard – the Lib Tech Travis Rice HP. Read on…

According to our scientific research (consisting of asking a few shred rats at the local park what they think) we have determined two things. Firstly that 83.6 percent of our readership dig stuff about snowboard product, and secondly that 92.37 percent of all statistics are made up. With this in mind, we’ve set about bringing you the lowdown on one bit of shred kit per week and have decided to give it the inspired name of Product of the Week. Who knows, when we’re feeling cooler we might just call it P.O.W. Shazam!

Gags aside, here’s where we’ll be throwing out props to the gear that’s got us mad stoked this season. First up is this deck that you’ll soon be seeing bending minds beneath the feet of Travis Rice in The Art of Flight.

LIB TECH

Travis Rice Pro Horsepower

Available lengths: 153, 157, 161.5, 164.5

Tested length: 161.5

This is basically Travis Rice‘s regular Pro model, but with a whole bunch of innovative eco-friendly construction worked in to it, hence the Horsepower tag. Dispensing with fibreglass altogether in favour of the less-toxic basalt, it’s topped with a BEANS – a bio-plastic topshet material, and a Columbian Gold Eco Timber core. You can thank Mervin’s experiMENTAL division now, or later.

Trav’s X-Games winning C2-Power Banana, Magne-Traction and freestyle geometries are the staple of this stick. The C2 Power Banana gives you rocker between the feet for loose funtimes and float combined with camber under your feet for heaps of stability, response and pop. MagneTraction means you’ll have epic edge hold and when you figure in the true twin shape the result is a super solid, epic board for all terrain freestyle whatever the terrain.

Here’s what our English Ed made of it when he tested it back in January.

With pointed tips, a long effective edge, Magnetraction and sparkly imagery, this board is a strange and interesting thing to have underfoot. But from the short ride to the first chair you become instantly aware that this is a killer snowboard. You know, when you just set foot on a deck and you know it’s proper. It sounds dumb but you could feel the power, liveliness, edge hold, but at the same time fairly playful nature of the TR, on the first 100m. When we charged harder later this was confirmed. Super stable at speed and great when ridden switch, heaps of pop for ollies yet enough butterability to impress in the minishred stakes, this truly is a rad board. Would have killed to be able to take this for a spin in pow.
