It’s been a while, but Six of the Best finally returns cracking its many-tailed whip on Finnish uber-tweaker, liability of an evening and owner of hands down THE finest moustache in snowboarding: Ladies and gents... Joonas Mustonen.
Mads is a snowboarder who needs little introduction. As equally at home firing himself off monstrous park structures as he is taking the freestyle skills to the kickers and natural terrain of the backcountry, his video parts over the last few years have been nothing short of awesome. Forget the world records: for Mads, it’s all about pushing himself while maintaining good style, which anyone who calls themselves a snowboarder can relate to. In this respect, he’s just like the rest of us… he just goes a bit bigger, that’s all. Onboard took a long overdue look at Mads’ world.
Two weeks ago Kari Opsal Maeland won the World Rookie Championships. Here is how she feels now and what her plans for the future are.
Voted as Onboard’s Queen of Style back in Onboard’s 10th Anniversary issue, there is no doubt that Kjersti Ostergaard Buaas is one of the girls pushing women’s riding to new heights. Her bronze medal pipe run at the Olympics was beefcake, she’s well known for having one of the best air to fakies in the business and, more recently, she’s been focussing on slopestyle to which she’s also applied the silky Buaas steeze. Check the front 7 in her winning US Open run. Nothing short of a banger. Kjersti finished the season as the highest placed Euro-spender on the women’s TTR tour, so we hooked up with her to talk about contests, competing and women’s riding amongst other things.
Rasmus Tikkanen, the metaphorical manager of the Storbis Shopfloor, dropped us a line to let us know that there’s gonna be some tasty comps on the Storbis blog where you can win a bunch of niceties from their benevolent sponsors. All you have to do is guess the trick. Well, that’s all well and good, but here at Onboard we like a little more meat with our potatoes, so we thought we’d grab him in the wilds of the internet and find out what’s been going on with the Shopfloor of late too.
This 23 year old from Rovaniemi, Finland is one of the guys pulling the strings for the Scrapbook Project – an ambitious documentary focussed on showing the reality of snowboarding for Finnish riders – that will be covermounted with Onboard’s December 08 issue. We caught up with Miikka for the lowdown on the project.
