We are snowboarders, but more importantly we’re human beings, and as such we should feel concerned about what’s going on in Tibet at the moment…
After decades of repression from the ultra authoritary Chinese governement, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change. In response, all they get in violences from China, to a degree that should make the world stand against it. It’s now impossible for journalists to access Tibet, and massacres are accuring as we speak, behind the thick curtain of ‘staying friend with powerful China’: our western governments are scared to say anything to such a powerful country.
China’s leaders are right now making a crucial choice between escalating brutality or dialogue that could determine the future of Tibet. China does care about its international reputation, especially with the perspective of the Olympic Games coming up.
The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world’s people to support him. That’s why I just signed the petition against violences in Tibet, which will be addressed to the Chinese authorities, if you want to do so, click here.
