Howdy from Aspen Colorado, where the coffee cups are bottomless and the parks are without end. In today’s big air finals if you weren’t spinning in four figures you weren’t playing to win. That is unless you were Travis Rice who has adopted the double backflip thingy as his competition winner for the season. Ah the joy of crowd pleasing.
Anyway not wanting to dwell on every tit for tat heat of the big air – because in truth I was dribbling on the boots of some fine cowgirls down at the Stetson shop, where their caramel country drawls persuaded photographer Mike W. to purchase a ten gallon hat and don lightning flash leather chaps – I will move quickly onto the finals. Sorry for the digression.
The contest for gold and silver was between Travis Rice and Andreas Wiig, yesterday’s winner of the Slopestyle, while the celebrity death match for bronze was between Antti Autti and local boy Danny Davis. Danny and Antti started out their contest with two cheeky methods but resorted to big spins in their second runs. Antti was victorious with a 10 (I think) and added a bronze to his array of fine trophies gathered over the season. Travis was not straying from his double back snizzle for the finals but it was just not working, sketching out on both runs. Andreas was left sitting pretty and now has more X Games gold hanging around his neck than Mr. T could have ever wished for.
Well I must dash as the pipe finals are about to hatch and the Euros are not looking super strong judging from the points of yesterdays qualifications, while White is on top and looking stronger than ever.
