The wind came up and shut down most of the resort, but the boys got the jib on and finally we got some shots in the bag.
Nice day? Not for long. It’s dumping outside right now.
Basa and the hotel her mate Vladi showed us. Stoked!
We awoke to beautiful bluebird and as I was struggling with the Interbahn our buddie Basa came over to join our crew. Though she’s nursing a small knee tweak, the plan was to ride a few sneaky laps of pow as the boys were in the rock garden we spied yesterday, but despite the clement weather down the valley at the Propaganda crib, as we got to Jasna early the clouds were shrouding the peak and the high wind meant only the bunny hill lift was running. Fortunately Basa met her mate Vlady who works for the Slovakian mag Tasty and he gave us a real sweet jib tip – an old abandoned and semi built hotel on the outskirts of the resort.
Sami, Matti and Joonas plotting the course of action after bagging bombdrops.
This was to be our base for the rest of the day as we dug and lugged a bunch of stuff hither and thither, first for a coupe of bomb drops and then, after some much-deserved fodder, this crazy water tower thing that we could only consider hitting thanks to the 30-odd tonnes of abandoned palettes and assorted wood on the site.
Aha. A water tank thingy. Let’s break our backs lugging a ton of wood to make it work, shall we? Ok, good.
Seriously, without the wood it would have been impossible to think of building a trannie to it, but 500kg of wood-moving and snow-shovelling later – despite the interruption by a couple of cackling Slovakian mushroom heads – and we left it to get a finishing coat of the fat flakes that are dumping down right now. We’re supposed to get a heap of new snow over the next couple days, so from frustration and despair we’ve gone to tired optimism. Happy days.
We got wood!
That thing right there weighed a fricking tonne.
Short blog today, but we’re knackered. To finish, after 4 days of hanging with Finns I can now translate some handy snowboard words from the clack-clackers into English:
Hand plantti – Hand plant.
Fast plantti – Fast plant.
Backflippi – backflip.
Bomb droppi – bomb drop.
Ghetto trannie 101.
Finished. Beat. In need of food, rest, and sleep. Zzzzzzz.
Ok, so as the buck-toothed bunny used to say: that’s all folks.
