Baldface, I miss you already!

Remember that song in “Dirty Dancing” in which the refrain goes “I had the time of my life?” These words keep repeating themselves inside my head…

Anne-Flore killing it on the spine. Actually it looked way more impressing from below!

Sorry I didn’t put up a blog yesterday but after an epic day of riding loads of tree runs, sharing pow pow with Savena, Craig Kelly’s wife, and getting serious in steep chutes, some of us went to the sauna and got stuck in there with cool beer. I stayed for one and a half hours, four beers and five “snow baths”!

Donna and Savena.

So it was no surprise that the party continued after dinner – including limbo dance and Tequila shots served through an ice slide… Of course it was sunny this morning! (even though the forecast had predicted a thunderstorm)

Hannah loves icy pipes!

But after the first run, the energy was back and the headache gone – you just can’t stop smiling up here. Every run is better than the one before and there is so much powder that with each turn you are spraying yourself so hard that you have snow all over you, even in your mouth. Today, Heath was our guide and showed us some treasures. We hiked up a bit to a face that the guide normally keep untracked for guests who are not as lucky as we were and blessed with fresh powder but as the season will be over after two more trips and it is supposed to snow more tonight, we had the pleasure. I think I kept on yelling for the whole run… Jihaaaaaaaaaaa…

Wanna get some white room action? Sorry again, this time it is my glove in the picture – luckily I’m not a professional photographer.

For one run the two cats (12 of us in each of them) met on the top of a face which was about 200 meters wide – first line for everybody! Some of the girls went pretty big on a wind lip that they dropped but the best was the cheering up that everyone got from the ones already on the bottom of the run. I have never been snowboarding with so many girls that push themselves with every run. This was the first all girl’s trip they had in Baldface (in general there is only one women in a group of 12 they told us) and I’m pretty sure the guides have never seen guests being so polite regarding who is getting the first line: “Hannah, you go first!”, “Tina, that is your line” or “Coco, kill it!” were pretty common shout outs. After three days of riding deep, deep powder I had a hard time getting back into the cat after each run (but the cookies and sandwiches waiting inside plus the prospect of another epic ride made it easier for me). I think I won’t be able to use my back leg at all tomorrow…

Our guide Heath checking the snow profile. Thanks for taking care of us so well and getting us the probably best rides of our lifes!

It is pretty amazing to go riding with guides that point at summits and tell you that they have been riding down there with Craig Kelly, who was the co-owner of the lodge, a few years ago. Thanks Heath, Buff, Ryan and Yuskai (sorry for spelling your Japanese name wrong, Yuskai!) for taking care of us and sharing your precious diamonds. I still can’t believe that you get to ride this every day! But I bet you never had a sauna party with 10 girls before… I also would like to thank the whole team of Baldface Lodge and especially Paula and Jeff who own this magic place – every one of you inspires people to just live their dreams.

There is a first line for everybody!

Someone of us asked Donna the other day if she could be her daughter. But if she said yes, she would have 23 daughters right now. A big hug to you, Donna – thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to discover heaven on earth and get to know each other in Canadian powder. Girls, you all rock!

Anne-Flore going back to the roots.

I’m now sitting in the bus which is taking us back to Spokane from where all of us will head back home, wherever home on this planet is. On one hand I’m sad as I would love to hang around with all these girls for much longer but on the other hand I’m so happy that I was allowed to be part of this. I think I just had the time of my life…

Good Bye, Baldface – hope to see you again!
