While yours trully had to be in Munich for the upcoming ISPO, Onboard’s senior photographer Scalp was on the battlefield to report the event in words and pictures. Thanks Scalpy!

“The final top 10 of this year’s edition of the O’Neill Pro freestyle quarterpipe ended up in a face off between France and Scandinavia. Boosted by the crowd, the French riders decided to privilege high and the airs were more and more massive at every attempt. While the Scans wanted to let their technical habilities speak for itself.

Pekka Ruokanen McTwist

In the end, Arthur Longo decided to push the limits a little further and got the most points with a huge Method at around 8 meters above the copping, rewarding the crowd for their warm cheering. Henning Marthinsen finish second with a perfectly executed BS720 around 4 meters high. Jean-Jacques Roux completed the podium despite a sore wrist, and boosted also a Method air, around 7.5 meters high. Brynild Vuilin the third Frenchman could have done better if he hadn’t bailed his monstruous last attempt.

A few young faces did very good for themselves on this quarterpipe, following their progression from the Junior circuit. As a good example, Fredrik Evensen rode super solid all the way, with also some big BS720. The technical prize if there were such thing would definitely go to the Finnish rider Mikka Hast with his BS900 mute.

In the girl’s competition, we can shout out a loud ‘Bravissima’ to Italian rider Rita Comi who showed the young ladies how to launch a Method at around 4.5 meters in the air. Meri Peltonen was the closest but missed the grab on her McTwist, while Conny Bleicher finish third with a pretty impressive BS air. Now it’s time for Arthur to go and celebratre his win with the”Psyko-judges” Thanks to O’Neill for putting another top class event, and to Jean-No and the Avoriaz crew who did a great job with this quarterpipe despite the lack of snow. See you next year… for the 10 meters!” – Scalp
